GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world. GivingTuesday will kick off the generosity season this year by inspiring people to give back on December 3rd, and throughout the year.
GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to give. GivingTuesday strives to build a world in which the catalytic power of generosity is at the heart of the society we build together, unlocking dignity, opportunity and equity around the globe
Our GivingTuesday Goals
This past June, we partnered with Downtown Green Bay to present the first ever "Theatre in the Park"-- a FREE outdoor performance of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream at Whitney Park. This came from years of dreaming and months of planning. In addition to the performance, there were food trucks and activities for all ages. For a one night only event, over 1,000 people attended (with some reports stating the numbers were approaching 1,500). This event was such an immense success that we have been asked to do it again summer 2020 -- and we hope it will continue for summers to come! And that's where we need you...
Normally, theatre companies rely on ticket sales for their production budget and to pay their production staff and actors. A theatre production typically costs at least $10,000 to produce -- this includes marketing, space rental (if applicable), sets, props, costumes, sound, lights, salary, stipends, concessions, performance rights, etc. With Theatre in the Park, there are no tickets sold so the performance is absolutely 100% free to the public. So how do we get the money to put on such a huge event? Solely from donations and sponsors.
From the testimonials above, as well as countless other Facebook comments, messages and emails, we know this event is one that is beneficial to the Green Bay community. Not only were we able to provide a free theatrical experience to many who may not otherwise go to the theatre, but we drew people in with Shakespeare and offered an opportunity for other local businesses to be featured and sell their products (food trucks, face painting, etc.). We helped to bring a lively event to a part of the city that is growing in arts and culture, and we want to be able to continue to provide these opportunities for all.
Your donations this GivingTuesday will help us continue this event. Help us continue to bring free theatre to the city of Green Bay and have a helping hand in keeping the performing arts alive and thriving.
